Venice High School Alumni Association awards $125,000.00 to Graduating Seniors

Senior Awards Night at Venice High School will be more than memorable for many seniors and their families. Scholarships, each ranging from $1,000.00 to $16,000.00, were awarded to 28 students. These students will be putting these scholarships to use continuing their education at UC Berkeley, Boston University, UCLA, UC Davis, Emory, Cal State Northridge, SMC as well as trade techs.

One of the scholarships that has special meaning is awarded in memory of Scott Antolick who was a senior when he died of heart complications. His parents, Art and Penny give a $5,000 scholarship yearly. Doris Gilbert, mother of Laura Jean Gilbert, who died of complications with Diabetes, also presented a scholarship. Many scholarships are awarded in memory of faculty and family: Velma Ott Smith/Blackwood, Leonard Gottlieb, Michael Pomerantz, G.O. Turney, Lois Larson Peterson, Shirley Hall, Bill Paney and Korean War Memorial. A couple from faculty and associations: Grant Francis, and Woman’s City Club. And three scholarships are named for the honorees that the Assoc. honored earlier this year: Gary George, Sylvia Villasenor and Harry Snyder.
